Volunteer

In addition to in-kind donations, we rely heavily on the help of our volunteers. They’re a critical part of the day-to-day functioning of our organization, performing a variety of tasks such as direct work with clients, hotline advocacy, administrative work, shelter maintenance, translation, and much more. You can see a list of volunteer positions below.

 

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Crisis Line Advocate:
The crisis line volunteer will be trained to answer crisis calls during non-business hours.  The volunteer will also be trained to provide adequate advocacy to survivors or victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Donations Organizer:
The Volunteer will manage the receipt, inventory, organization, display, and dispensation of donated property.

Housekeeping Assistance:
The volunteer will provide housekeeping assistance at the Bright Horizons’ business office and/or shelter facility.

Office Assistant:
The volunteer will assist in filing, data entry, and preparation of bulk mailings and other various office duties.

Outreach Assistant:
The volunteer will assist with public awareness, education, and outreach.

Shelter Advocate:
The volunteer will provide advocacy services to sheltered survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Support Group Assistant:
The volunteer will assist in the facilitation of adult or children’s support group.

Translator:
The volunteer will assist in the provision of advocacy services to survivors or victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by translating spoken and written words between Bright Horizons’ clients and advocates.

Transportation Aide:
The volunteer will provide transportation to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and their children.

Interships:
Bright Horizons also offers internships for students in social work and related fields

Training Requirements

All volunteers who will be in direct contact with clients will be required to successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours of Volunteer Advocacy Training provided by Bright Horizons.  A volunteer may not assist with the crisis line or client advocacy until the training is completed.  The volunteer will be given the opportunity to attend additional trainings once they have completed the Volunteer Advocate training.  These additional trainings include the level one “Fundamentals of Advocacy” and other trainings by the NDVSAC.  Volunteers with direct client contact will also be given the opportunity to participate in work related trainings and/or continuing education throughout the year.

Volunteers who provide non-direct client services, at the discretion of Bright Horizons management, will be provided four hours basic informational training. At the minimum Bright Horizons will thoroughly explain confidentiality and require the volunteer to sign the Confidentiality Policy Agreement form.
